Hope was Here- Post #7

Hope has a tradition of writing her name in all the places she has been so people know that "Hope was Here."  Throughout the novel this is one of many ways that people express or feel hope.  List some specific ways that hope is conveyed in the novel (through food, music, people, etc.).  Share your own story of a time you knew hope was here.

  1. In the novel Hope Was Here many people express hope. People show their hope by going to eat at G.T.s resteraunt to show that they support him and want him to get better. G.T. Shows hope in the book by giving Hope the hybrid tree and adopting her, by doing this he is telling her he hopes that he can be her father. I can tell when people feel hopeful and one of those times was when I did a triathlon for kids with cancer, everyone at the triathlon raised money for a kid going through a really though time and a few of the kids that were going through cancer were up on the stage they said there name and age. During that time I could feel that everyone that was running that race just hoped that those kids would stay strong and make it through their illness.

  2. In "Hope was Here", hope is conveyed all over town, especially at G.T.'s restaurant. Everyone knows that the town is falling apart at the hands of the old mayor, and when people go to G.T's restaurant to support him, they realize that there is a chance for the town to get better. One way that Hope is conveyed is when G.T lost the election by a few votes, and Hope noticed that one person who voted for the other mayor is someone who talked to Hope, and said that he wouldn't vote for anyone. So, when Hope uses her people skills and goes up to him to congratulate him on voting, he says that he didn't vote at all, so the vote, and many others, were frauds.

  3. In the town of Mulhoney WI, Hope was here, there, and everywhere! The people of the town put their hope in G.T. when he wanted to run for mayor and when he was diagnosed with cancer. Hope and the other workers put their hope into Anastasia trying to get her to eat and play. Hope put her hope into Addie to take care of her all those years. When I was in Sisseton SD for a missions trip this summer, i got the opportunity to help out with a program called Kids Club, which was a place for the kids in the community to come to and hangout. When I was there, I met this little girl, she told me about her home life, her mother wasn't the best and her father was not around a lot of the time. But this little girl, she told me that she loved going to school and that when she grew up she wanted to help people. And I was just shocked, that even though if this girl told you what went on in her life, you wouldn't believe that she would even think about things like what shes going to do when she grows up. she told me that among every body, she hoped to grow up to be able to help her mom get better. In that moment i knew that hope was the strongest thing that could ever get any body any where in life.

  4. Hope would be a huge way to explain the people and the town’s actions and feelings in the book. People such as Hope and all the other workers that helped Anastasia everyday at work, in high hopes she would get better. Other people who came to the dinner to eat and support G.T. showed their hope and support to what he was doing for the town. Also Braverman and all the other teenagers showed here hope by speaking out for G.T. and the election even though they couldn’t vote yet. Hope the most hopeful of them all, she showed her hope by greeting everyone with a smile and giving everyone the best meal she could and shared wonderful memories with people to keep them in high spirits. One time I new hope was there is when my Aunt had cancer. No one ever had a doubt in his or her mind she wasn’t going to make it. Everyone prayed for her and you could just feel that it was going to be all right. That’s when I new hope was there.

  5. Hope showed up all throughout the book. Hope was a very hopeful person and her named showed it, and she showed it to her friends and the town. People showed hope by supporting G.T. in his campaign and his restaurant. I think the two most hopeful actions in the book were when G.T lost the elections, but had the opportunity to run again and won! Another hopeful part of the book was when G.T. adopted Hope as his daughter. I loved the part where he showed her the the tree that had two branches on the floor that would soon be one.

  6. Hope was everywhere in the town but a lot of it was at the diner. People showed hope when G.T. was running for elections for mayor. Also when G.T. adopted Hope as his daughter.

  7. Hope was wherever Hope went. The food the she brought people made them happy and hopeful. I felt hope when my Grandma died and all of my friends helped me get over it. Hope can be anywhere and everywhere.

  8. There is hope all over, its in our homes, its at our schools, and its in GTs restaurant. Hope was there even when people couldn't see it. Hope was in Anastasia in the back room, hope was kn Braverman standing there over the grill, and hope was in Hope, keeping a smile on all her customers faces.
