Which of the characters in this book present a “false face” to the world? How do their words and actions differ from who they really are? Why do you think people are inclined to put on a "false face"?
There are many characters who are putting on a "false face" in this book. Once such character is Eric. In the book you read that Eric was staying fat for Sara because he was worried that she would think that he would not want to be friends with her anymore. But thats isn't who he really was, If he didn't eat to stay fat for Sarah, he would have been a slender 18 year old that loved to swim. Sarah saw through this "false face". I think that some people are inclined to put on a "false Face" because they either want to look better to others or they want other people to feel better about themselves.
I think that Sarah puts out a 'false face' to the world. She acts like she's really tough, and can stand any taunting, names or punch that the world throws at her. While really, she's scared. Scared of her dad, who seems to be getting worse and worse, and could do blow up at any moment. I think people who put on a 'false face' are trying to seem stronger than they really are, so they don't get taunted for being different than everyone else.
I believe that Sarah Byrnes has a false face in this book. In the book Sarah acts confident and in control when really she is an out of control scared 17 year old. I think she's inclined to put on a 'false face' because she doesn't want other people's pity and she doesn't want people to know the life she's had to live since she was a little girl.
In this book I think Sarah Byrnes is a character who presents a "false face". Sarah presents herself as a confident, brave teenage girl who won't let anyone tell her what to do. Nothing anyone says to her will bring her down. But behind her "false face" Sarah is terrified. She knows what her father is capable of and is scared for her safety. One day her father could wake up and decide he could live without her. The reason I think she feels she needs to present a "false face" is because she doesn't want anyone to pity her or know really how she really feels. She doesn't want any help from anyone, so she acts as if everything is fine and that she is just a normal kid.
I think Brittain has put on the false face of a religious zealot. He doesn't know what he's doing and has turned to religion to speak for him. He's probably afraid to express his opinions, so he speaks the religions thoughts. That's why it's so hard to talk to him about things like abortion. He can't see the logic because he's blindly parroting what he has been taught; and it's hard to accept a different, sane, sensible perspective.
Virgil Byrnes is a character in this book that shows the world his “false face” and deceives many by doing it. Around adults and the public, he will be civilized and saner. Virgil will talk to people and do things in a more restricted way so he can get his daughter, Sarah Byrnes, back. However, when he is alone or with Sarah and/or Eric, he presents his real nature. He will be cold, ruthless, and will do whatever he wants with Eric or Sarah. He will threaten people in order to achieve his goals, as he did with Eric. If he does not get what he wants, he will make others pay. Many characters in the novel “Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes” presented a “false face”, but none of them had to hide murderous nature like Virgil Byrnes.
I believe that Sarah Byrnes put on a "false face" to other people and sometimes even herself. Sarah presented herself to the world as a confident, brave girl who didn't care or think twice about things people said. On the inside she was hurt, scared, and didn't like the way people looked at her and gave her pity. Sarah just like many other people, didn't want to let them in or to trust them. She wanted them to believe she was strong enough to handle anything so they wouldn't give her pity or feel bad for "the girl with the burned face". She doesn't want help from people so she acts like everything is under control, so people wont think any thing of it.
There were many false faces in the story, but one of them was Sarah Byrnes. She was putting on an act to hide how scared she was so then people wouldn't think less of her and pick on her even more. In all reality Sarah Byrnes was just a scared and gentle girl who couldn't handle her life. She did this to fight back with others who were rude and mean to her and her own dad who is very abusive. People put on a false face to hide the problems in their life. It makes them forget about their problems and lets them be someone else who might have it better. People use a false face to help them get through there life which is what Sarah Byrnes did.
I think one of the people who presented a "false face" was Mark, because through the whole book he pretended to be a perfect example of a good Christian, who never did anything wrong. Obviously, that is a lie seeing as how he pressured Jody into getting an abortion, and eventually, attempted suicide. Thankfully, he cut himself some slack I'm the end, and decided to lower his standards a tad. While I didn't really like Mark in the book, I was glad he turned out okay in the end.
I think one person who put on a "false face" in the book was Sarah Byrnes. She pretended that she was tough and brave, but on the inside she was hurt and scared. She acts like nothing bothers her, but she is scared to death of her father. She is so scared that she pretends she needs to be in a hospital. I think that people are inclined to put on a false face because they are scared to show who they really are. They would like to just hide everything and pretend that they are fine. They might be so scared that they think that they are better off going through life and hiding who they really are from everybody.
Sarah Byrnes is definitely a character who puts on a 'false face'. On the outside, she looks and acts tough. Although, when she is with the right people, her real personality comes out. She has a soft heart, and looks out for others. I think people put on a 'false face' to hide who they really are, because they are embarassed about who they truly are.
There are many characters in this book that present a "false face" to the world. One of those characters is the narrator, Eric, because multiple times in the book he lies to Sarah Byrnes. For reference, on page 103 Eric lies to Sarah Byrnes that he wasn't previously aware of a traumatic event when Sarah was a child. Also occurring in other sections the book, Eric lies to Sarah Byrnes when he tells her that he won't share her secrets when he actually has intentions of sharing them. Eric's words and actions in these moments are different then who he actually is, because he is lying and not telling what he has intentions of doing. I think that people are inclined to put on a "false face", because they either want to appear to be somebody that they are not (usually a better person than they actually are). I think that stating this is important because Sarah is sharing her deep secrets with Eric because she thinks he is trustworthy, but he actually has a "false face" and is a liar.
I believe that Sarah Byrnes is definitely a character that presents a "false face." She acts and looks like she is very tough. What's surprising, is that when shes with people that she is comfortable around her real personality is shown. Her real personality is sweet and is always looking out for others. People use "false faces" to try to be cool or tough which is exactly what Sarah did.
A lot of characters had a "false face" in this book. An uncommon occurrence of this was shown by Sarah's Dad. Most of the false faces in this book were used to hide that characters real feelings and emotions as a wall. Sarah's Dad used a "false face" in an entirely different way. He used a "false face" to hoodwink everyone who didn't know Sarah into thinking that Sarah's scars were from an accident. By doing this he was able to get close and punish people he thought deserved suffering.
There are several characters that have a ‘false face’ in this book. For one of them, it is Mr. Byrnes. He is portraying an innocent dad, when he really is an abusive, dangerous man. He put on his ‘false face’ so that it was unthinkable to see him as an abuser. Another false faced character in this story is Sarah Bynes, who portrays a very tough, strong-minded girl who never lets the world get under her skin. But inside she is a very emotional, vulnerable girl. And the world does get under her skin. She was even to the point of taking her own life. These people who put on a show like this are trying to fit into society, and make people think they are something they are not. This book really teaches you to not judge a book by its cover.
I think that Sarah Byrnes presents a 'false face' in the book. She pretends to be a big tough teen who is not afraid of anything. However in reality she is big and tough but there are lots of things in the world that scare her, like her dad. Sarah Byrnes also said that her burns came from a pot of spaghetti, but in fact they came from her father shoving her face against a wood stove. I think she put on a 'false face' because she was working out a plan in her head the whole time and was waiting for the right moment to put it into action. She also knew her scars would never be her friend but, she could use them to make her look big and tough. Sarah Byrnes had been wearing a false face for years but now it's gone.
Many characters in this book have put on a “False face” to change the way they act on the outside to what they really are on the inside. One of those characters is Sarah Byrnes. She acts like a tough person that doesn’t care what other people think about her but on the inside she is very emotional. She acts like she is not afraid of her dad when in reality she is terrified of him after what he did to change her forever. If people knew what Sarah Byrnes’s real personality, she might get picked on for the way she looks and for acting weak. People use a false face when they want to change what people think about them, and that’s what Sarah Byrnes did.
I definitely think one of the characters that put on a false face was Sarah Byrnes herself. On the outside she looked and was very tough. On the inside and when you got too see the real her, she was very kind-hearted and loving. Her tough appearance on the outside was very different from the inside.
One of the characters that showed a false face was Sarah Byrnes. On the outside, she looks and acts tough. When she lets people get to know her, they learn that she is a sweet girl. She's also scared most of the time. She fakes not being able to talk to get away from her father. As the book continues, Sarah Byrnes's false face starts to fade and we get to see the true Sarah Byrnes.
A person who showed a false face was Sarah Byrnes. She always acted this really tough girl that could take anything. Towards the end of the book she starts revealing her true colors. She is actually nice and caring. I think she acted tough so she could protect herself. Being tough was just a self defense mechanism. In reality she was a nice person but she wore a mask of toughness to protect herself.
I think Sarah Brynes was the main person who showed a false face. She always looks and acts real tough when in the inside she’s really not. In the inside, Sarah is terrified of her father. She knows what he is capable of from when she got burned by him when she was little. I think people are inclined to put on a false face because they want other people to think that they are just another ordinary kid and not what they really are in the inside.
I feel like the main person who was false faced was Sarah. She showed it a lot throughout the book because she was a tough girl who didn't show any feelings. She had the memory of when her father burned her and left her with scars all over her face. Throughout the story she reveals her true self which is a sweet and caring person. Sarah was really scared to show that but Eric helped her along the way throughout the book. I feel like people are scared to show there true colors because they don't want to be made fun of and get laughed at.
I think that Sarah Byrnes was the main person who showed a "false face". At the start of the story, she told everyone that the burns were from when she was young, she pulled a pot of boiling spaghetti on her face. Throughout the story she reveals that the burns are from her father. Also, she could talk all the time but she just stopped talking and went to the Sacred Heart for a place to feel safe. I think that people just don't want to show the true them because they might be made fun of and get humiliated about themselves.
I believe many people in this book put on “false faces” to hide their true emotions. One of the many people with a “false face” is Sarah. Sarah acts like she is very tough and nothing can hurt her, but inside Sarah is actually really soft and is trying to hide her true feelings. I think that Sarah hides her feelings because when her father abuses her she doesn't want to act like a baby she wants him to believe she is strong and that doesn't bother her. Only some people can see through her “false face” and one of them is Eric. When Eric tells Sarah about Jody and when she writes in her notebook is when she breaks down and shows her true colors.
There were many people who put on a "false face" just to look better and not show their real emotions. Sarah put on the act of a fake Sarah to everyone around her sometimes even to herself. She acted like she was tough and wasn't the person you wanted to mess with. The real Sarah had been messed with, she was a real girl with real emotions, she was just really good at hiding them. My theory on why people put on a false face it that they don't wanna show the world who they really are because they are embarrassed about themselves.
I believe that Mark Britain puts on a "false face" mostly during CAT class. When discussing the topic of abortion, he angrily stated that abortion is wrong, and should never be done because it is murder. However, when his girlfriend, Jody, became pregnant, he forced her to have an abortion and lied about it to the class, insisting that she was a liar. I think that people are inclined to show a "false face" because of guilt or they feel ashamed of telling the truth about doing something they believe is wrong.
A character that I thought presented a “false face” to the world in this book was Sarah Byrnes. Sarah presents a face that shows she is determined, strong, and brave. She threatens her friend Eric Calhoune, saying she will beat him up he tells anything about how she really got burned. On the inside, Sarah is just a regular girl. When she is at Mrs. Lemry’s house, Lemry found out what a calm and nice girl she really is. I think people are inclined to put on a “false face” because they want to hide who they really are. They might not want to show if they are “soft” or “caring” to others who think of them as tough and mean.
There are many characters in the book that represent a “false face”. One of those characters is Sarah Byrnes. She acts tough and somewhat mean when she is around people so that they don’t suspect that anything is wrong. In reality though she is scared and very vulnerable. Also Sarah says that her burns came from her pulling a pot of spaghetti on herself, but it was really from her dad pushing her into a wood stove. Another character that has a “false face” is Mr. Byrnes. He pretends to be just a normal dad who is worried about their child, when at home he is abusive and act terribly towards Sarah. Mr. Byrnes puts on a “false face” because he could go to jail, while Sarah is worried that if she tells the truth they won’t believe her and her dad will hurt her. I think that people are inclined to put on a “false face” because they aren’t sure what people will think. Most people probably pretend to be someone they aren’t because of pure pressure. They are scared that if they don’t do what everyone else wants them to do people will think of them differently.
One character that represented a "false face" to me was Sarah Byrnes. She often acted as if she was tough and mean but inside was scared and sad. She always acted as if she was going to beat up anyone that told people how she actually got burned. When she was at Mrs. Lemry's house her real feelings and she was nice and emotional. I believe people put on a "false face" to hide their real feelings. One way is someone is really soft and caring they may put on a mean face so no one even thinks that they are really soft and have completely different personality.
I think that Sarah Byrnes put on a “false face” for the world. On the outside she looked tough and she acted very strong. Although in the inside she was a very sweet girl that was just scared. Also Mr. Byrnes put on “false face” acting as if he wouldn't hurt Sarah Byrnes. I think people on these “false faces” to sometimes show people a different side of them or to make people believe they are not who they actually are.
Out of all the characters in the book I think Sarah Byrnes put on the most "false face" to the world. She had always acted like she was tough and mean on the outside. When really on the inside she was scared of what might really happen to her if she wasn't tough about what happened to her face and how it happened. I think when people put on a "false face" they are really just hiding what they feel inside. Like when Sarah was at Ms. Lemry's house she really talked about what she felt inside, instead of putting on a "false face".
A lot of characters in this book have a "false face" these characters include Sarah Byrnes’s and Virgil Byrne’s. Sarah Byrnes’s has a "false face” because she acts tough on the outside, but on the inside she’s scared and weak. An example of her “false face” is when she wrote a note to Eric saying that she was scared, and also that when Eric told her he was staying fat for her she cried, but she said that when he sees her she would not act that way she described herself in the note. Virgil Byrnes puts on a “false face” by fooling everybody about Sarah Byrnes’s scars and saying that she poured a pot of spaghetti on her head, but in reality he shoved her face on the burning stove. People are inclined to put a false face on for different reasons, in Sarah Byrnes’s case she puts on a “false face” to make people believe that she is stronger that she really is. As in Virgil Byrne’s case he puts on a “false face” to keep the secret that he burned his daughter.
There were many "false faces" in the story but one of the characters that stood out to me was Mark Brittain. He used a "false face" most in CAT class. While they had the topic of abortion he continuously stated that abortion was wrong, and should never be done. However, when Jody Mueller his girlfriend became pregnant he forced her to have an abortion then lied to the class. I think that people put on false faces to hide how ashamed or guilty they may feel.
in this book there were many charcters with a "false face", but I think that sarah brynes is hiding the most. Sarah Brynes comes across as a mean-hearted girl with nothing to lose. When really she is terrified of her father and all that he is cabable of. she covers up for this by pretending that nothing can hurt her. I think that sarah brynes puts on a "false face" to cover up or conceal what she really feels
I think that in this book Mark Brittain puts up a 'false face'. Mark acts like he is so above everybody else in the school because of his stance in religion. He believes that his way is the only way. We see this expressed in CAT class when he talks so strongly about topics like abortion being wrong because it was against his religion. But then we find out later that he makes his girlfriend get one after they commit a 'sin' against his religion. Even after that happens he still acts like the non christians are beyond beneath him. But i also think that this 'false face' is almost necessary seeing as though most of the adults in his life expect him to act that way. I think that although faking who you are isn't always right, sometimes it has to be done so that you can please everybody.
I think Sarah Byrnes put on a "False Face." Sarah acted to other people as if her scars weren't even there, she was confident, and acted like it didn't take a toll on her. When actually on the inside Sarah was hurt, scared, helpless, and didn't like the way people were viewing her with her scars. I think Sarah puts on a false face so people don't view her as a scared little girl with burns on her face.
Though there are many characters in the book, I believe the most unique false face is owned by Virgil Byrnes himself. Virgil portrays the the image of an innocent father of a terribly scared daughter. When, really, he is a horrifying, dangerous monster who attempted murder on his wife bye drowning her in the kitchen sink. Although he failed at that, he most certainly succeeded in horribly burning and scarring his beautiful 3-year-old daughter 14 years ago. All together, hidden behind Virgil's false face is 20+ years in prison. No one else's false face has as much as he.
I think Sarah presents a false face in the book. She acts really tough and like nothing can hurt her but in the inside she is actually afraid and fragile. I think people put on a false face because they don't want people to know who they really are.
I think Virgil Byrnes and Sarah Byrnes both presented a false face. Virgil acted as if he did nothing to his daughter and he just wanted to know where she was. Although in reality he wanted to hurt her and Eric. Sarah on the other hand, tried to act tough and unstoppable. In reality she was very scared and even thought about suicide.
I think that Sarah Byrnes puts on a "False Face" to the world. She acted really tough and mean all the time. She would even take punches and act like it didn't bother her. Really though she was scared and sad. She was scared of Virgil Byrnes that he would get crazy and hurt her bad again like the burns when she was three or hurt Eric. Another thing she is scared of is now that Eric isn't as fat from swimming, that he will break of there friendship and get new friends. She is also sad that when anyone looks at her they flinch at the scars on her face and don't actually get to know her for who she is. I think people are inclined to put on "False Faces" because they don't want people to know who they really are. In Sarah Byrnes' case I think she doesn't want people to think she is just a scared girl with scars on her face.
They're were definitely "false faces” in this book. The main one was Sarah Byrnes. She acted tough but really on the inside was scared of her father. She puts on a front so no one will know about what happened to her when she was little. She keeps to herself so so her past won’t be exposed. Shes's afraid to tell anyone the truth in case they will try to help her or call child protection.
Sarah Byrnes is definitely a false face in this book. She acts all tough and mean but really inside she is very fragile and scared. She is supper frighted by her dad and what he has done to her. Also she is scared that people will find out about what happened to her when she was a kid. I think people are inclined to put on a false face because they do not want peoples pity and sorrow.
As the book continues, Sarah Byrnes's false face starts to fade and we get to see the true Sarah Byrnes.
ReplyDeleteA person who showed a false face was Sarah Byrnes.
ReplyDeleteI think Sarah Brynes was the main person who showed a false face.
ReplyDeleteI feel like the main person who was false faced was Sarah.
ReplyDeleteI think that Sarah Byrnes was the main person who showed a "false face".
ReplyDeleteI believe many people in this book put on “false faces” to hide their true emotions.
ReplyDeleteThere were many people who put on a "false face" just to look better and not show their real emotions.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Mark Britain puts on a "false face" mostly during CAT class.
ReplyDeleteA character that I thought presented a “false face” to the world in this book was Sarah Byrnes.
ReplyDeleteThere are many characters in the book that represent a “false face”.
ReplyDeleteOne character that represented a "false face" to me was Sarah Byrnes.
ReplyDeleteI think that Sarah Byrnes put on a “false face” for the world.
ReplyDeleteOut of all the characters in the book I think Sarah Byrnes put on the most "false face" to the world.
ReplyDeleteA lot of characters in this book have a "false face" these characters include Sarah Byrnes’s and Virgil Byrne’s.

ReplyDeleteThere were many "false faces" in the story but one of the characters that stood out to me was Mark Brittain.
ReplyDeletein this book there were many charcters with a "false face", but I think that sarah brynes is hiding the most. Sarah Brynes comes across as a mean-hearted girl with nothing to lose. When really she is terrified of her father and all that he is cabable of. she covers up for this by pretending that nothing can hurt her. I think that sarah brynes puts on a "false face" to cover up or conceal what she really feels
ReplyDeleteI think that in this book Mark Brittain puts up a 'false face'.
ReplyDeleteI think Sarah Byrnes put on a "False Face." Sarah acted to other people as if her scars weren't even there, she was confident, and acted like it didn't take a toll on her. When actually on the inside Sarah was hurt, scared, helpless, and didn't like the way people were viewing her with her scars. I think Sarah puts on a false face so people don't view her as a scared little girl with burns on her face.
ReplyDeleteThough there are many characters in the book, I believe the most unique false face is owned by Virgil Byrnes himself.
ReplyDeleteI think Sarah presents a false face in the book. She acts really tough and like nothing can hurt her but in the inside she is actually afraid and fragile. I think people put on a false face because they don't want people to know who they really are.
ReplyDeleteI think Virgil Byrnes and Sarah Byrnes both presented a false face. Virgil acted as if he did nothing to his daughter and he just wanted to know where she was. Although in reality he wanted to hurt her and Eric. Sarah on the other hand, tried to act tough and unstoppable. In reality she was very scared and even thought about suicide.
ReplyDeleteI think that Sarah Byrnes puts on a "False Face" to the world.
ReplyDeleteThey're were definitely "false faces” in this book.
ReplyDeleteSarah Byrnes is definitely a false face in this book. She acts all tough and mean but really inside she is very fragile and scared. She is supper frighted by her dad and what he has done to her. Also she is scared that people will find out about what happened to her when she was a kid. I think people are inclined to put on a false face because they do not want peoples pity and sorrow.
